Lac Assal 

Lac Assal is 150m (492ft) below sea level, and is an aquatic wilderness surrounded by dormant volcanoes and black lava fields. The lake is a one-day trip on the tarmac road west from the capital. You will pass Lac Goubet on the way, a seawater loch known locally as ‘the pit of demons’

RWA also does tours to Lac Abbe and Lac Assal. We also organized individualized trips to suit your interest. Our season is from September through May.

Dolphin Excursions Djibouti

Dolphin Excursions has been leading adventures in Djibouti since 1999. They are the only PADI Dive center in all of Djibouti. ​ With over 20 years of experience leading tours to lac assal/ lac abbe, as well as whale shark research and tours, scuba diving and their famous live aboard boat trips they are the foremost authority on everything Djibouti.

Lake Abbe

You can only reach Lac Abbé by 4WD, and you’ll need to hire a guide and set aside two days to do it. In the far south-west of the country on the border with Ethiopia, Lac Abbé is the dawn gathering place for flamingos. Weird natural chimneys (or fumaroles) formed by escaping underground steam dot the foreshore. The town of Dikhil, where the sealed road runs out, is a good starting point for 4WD expeditions.

Moucha Island

Visit Moucha Island. Situated a few miles from the shore of Djibouti, this magical stretch of islands is just under two-miles long and surrounded by stunning coral reefs. It is frequented by travelers who are interested in snorkeling, fishing and diving. Enjoy a snorkeling experience in the Gulf of Tadjoura after your arrival. The Gulf borders the east side of the country and is one of the richest areas in the world for coral and fish species
